Following a recent Windows 11 update, users may encounter a security warning when opening an RDP (.rdp) file to connect to their office computer remotely. This article explains why the warning appears and how to resolve it for your specific RDP file.

Warning Type:
Unknown Publisher: The RDP file has no digital signature
Identity Cannot Be Verified: Your office PC’s certificate is not trusted by your home machine
Follow these steps once. After saving, the warning will not appear again for this RDP file.
Step 1: Open Your RDP File Settings:
- Locate your RDP file (usually on your Desktop or in your Downloads folder).
- Right-click the file and select Show Options, or open Remote Desktop Connection and click Show Options at the bottom left.
Step 2: Update the Advanced Settings
- Click the Advanced tab at the top.
- Under “Server authentication”, find the setting: “If server authentication fails”.
- Change the dropdown to: Connect and don’t warn me.
Step 3: Save the File
- Click the General tab.
- Click Save As… and overwrite your existing RDP file (or save to the same location with the same name).
- Close the dialog.
Your RDP file is now configured. The warning will not appear on future connections using this file.
